Victor Harbor

Visitor Information Centre

Victor Harbor has just about everything you could want for a relaxing holiday - sun, surf and sand, clear turquise waters, stunning views, outstanding early colonial architecture, good pubs, cafes and restuarants, even a Clydesdale-drawn tram to haul you across a 600m causeway to Granit Island to greet the resident Little Penguins.

Nestled on a wide sandy arc of Encounter Bay, Victor Harbor has been the summer holiday choice for generations of South Australians with a choice of safe swimming and some of South Australia's best surf beaches such as Petrel Cove, Chiton Rocks and the Dump. Between May - October Southern Right Whales frequently visit Encounter Bay, which was named in 1802 by the famed navigator and mapmaker Matthew Flinders of the Investigator after his encounter there with French explorer Nicholas Baudin on board Le Geographe.

The newly renovated SA Whale Centre gives you the chance to learn about the whales and other marine inhabitants.

The many family activities in the area include Greenhills Adventure Park, Encounter Coast Discovery Centre, The Horse Drawn Tram and Urimbirra Wildlife Park. Visitors will enjoy the opportunity to climbaboard the rattling Cockle Train for a stream rail experience along the coast to Port Elliot and Goolwa, following the path of Australia's first Railway.
